This plugin is an extension of the BIRT JDBC ODA driver that allows a developer to override the execution of the JDBC Dataset by providing the BIRT engine a JDBC ResultSet via the Application Context. This plugin came about after numerous requests on the BIRT Exchange forums asking if there was a way to determine result set size before a report executes, or do some sort of data driven report generation. The only way to accomplish this is to generate a ResultSet prior to executing a BIRT report, as report elements are created during the Preperation phase, and data is populated during the Generation phase. In the past there were complex workarounds using data driven parameters to do this, but using this ODA, you can generate your result set using JDBC or using the helper functions provided.

This plugin came about based on several requests in the BIRT-Exchange forums. This plugin will take any numeric value (Number, Integer, Float, Decimal) and convert it to a fully spelled out String equivalent. For example, if the user passes in a value of 1001, the result of this function will be "one thousand and one". It is Locale aware, so if the Locale was Spanish, the results would be 'Mil y uno'.

A new pair of Excel file emitters for BIRT. For use when the limitations of the BIRT open source Excel emitter have driven you to use the Tribix emitter, and the layout problems with the Tribix emitter have driven you to want something else. These emitters output true Excel files (using Apache POI, as used by Tribix), but try to output spreadsheets that are usable as spreadsheets, rather then trying to produce files that print exactly the same as PDF output would. The nature of these emitters (coupled with their early state of development) mean that there will doubtless be reports, and formatting elements on reports, that they cannot output, but for the majority of reports their output should be more usable than that from Tribix (which can only be achieved by ignoring some formatting).

This ODA will allow a report developer to leverage the BIRT RPDocument format as a report data source. This was originally developed to address an issue where a user wanted to run a report once, and cache the results of the data query so that the report would not need to re-execute the same query multiple times. This can be used also to run a smaller sub-set of data in a format that can be re-freshed and used to develop reports against, keeping report developers from needing to connect to a database directly, or to re-sort or re-group a result set without needing to re-run a report. Basically, you can run a report once, and leverage those results for future reports.

The jsf4birt component library supports the rendering of BIRT-based reports on pages within JavaServer Faces (JSF) Web applications. Report viewers implemented as JSF components using this library can then be easily adjusted through tag attributes. There are two components. A BIRT wrapper and an Actuate wrapper.
