BIRT Deployment Kit is a lightweight J2EE report repository with a web front-end for users to browse, select, and run BIRT reports on demand. It embeds the Eclipse BIRT Engine and its APIs. It can be implemented stand alone as an End User Reporting Portal or embedded in an application. BIRT Deployment Kit is compatible with BIRT reports developed by any BIRT designer and with reports modified by the BIRT Interactive Viewer.

Report Personalization

Parameter-driven Reports
BIRT Deployment Kit automatically generates multiple versions of a report from a single design based on data values.
- Automatically Generated Parameter Input Pages - creates pages from the report design at run-time from which the user specifies parameters; for example, dynamic pick lists generated from a database or calendar controls.
- Dynamic cascading parameters - supports nested parameter specification; for example, specifying a state and then a city within that state.
- Null parameters - allows user to indicate that a parameter contains no value thus distinguishing between a null or not specified value and a blank value.
- Autosuggest parameters - displays a dynamic list of values generated based on the characters typed into the edit box by the user.
BIRT Studio and BIRT Interactive Viewer Compatibility
BIRT Deployment Kit provides a portal from which end users can create reports using BIRT Studio and modify reports with BIRT Interactive Viewer.
- BIRT Studio - a web-based report development tool for business users to create BIRT reports using the reusable report components created by any BIRT designer; for example, users can create charts and graphs; add, rearrange, reformat, show and hide data; and change report, row, column and cell formatting to create their own BIRT report.
- BIRT Interactive Viewer - is a web-based end-user tool for interactive analysis and modification of BIRT Reports. With the BIRT Interactive Viewer, end users can change BIRT report formatting; hide , add or move data; create charts, sort data and apply functions to data. It has an AJAX-based user interface
Localization
The web user interface for BIRT Deployment Kit allows the end user to select their locale in order to internationalize the user interface and the reports.
- Report Localization - adjusts the way numbers and letters are displayed and the direction in which text is displayed based on the locale.
- User Interface Localization - presents the user interface in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Korean, Japanese, Hong Kong - Chinese, PRC - Chinese, and Thai.
