BIRT Designer Pro adds Flash capabilities, direct database drivers and other features, and is available through a stand-alone Windows installer or as a plug-in to your Eclipse IDE. BIRT Designer Pro supports all the features of the Eclipse BIRT Designers and is compatible with reports developed with them.
Meta Data Layer Builder
The Information Object Builder included in BIRT Designer Pro is a visual development tool used to create an optional metadata layer of information objects that represent controlled, business user-appropriate views of data for inclusion in BIRT reports and accessible from BIRT Studio for ad hoc reporting by end users.
Mutliple Data Source and Compo
BIRT Information Object Builder creates metadata objects that pull in and integrate real-time data from multiple heterogeneous data sources and supports the component-based reuse ability of all BIRT Designers.

- Component-based reuse – create components to be included in the BIRT report libraries for use in multiple reports.
Visual development environment
BIRT Information Designer is a highly graphical, visual development environment to create Information Objects that specify data sources, calculated fields, and meta-data names for fields and columns.
- Explicit query definitions – supports pre-setting specific queries and explicitly specifying how queries should execute and return results, isolating them from layout operation.
- Role-based access control – supports controlling which information users can receive, based user role and access privileges. Filters and conditions can be applied to allow personalized views of data for each user.
