BIRT iServer is a report server with a variety of services that deploy, manage, schedule, secure, run and distribute BIRT documents and web pages. The services can be phased in and capacity purchased to support just the services needed. It is available as a Platform-as-a-Service (BIRT OnDemand), can be implemented on premises, or installed in a cloud.

BIRT iServer supports large, multi-tenant deployments in SaaS applications, PaaS deployments and on-premises enterprise implementations. To make it as easy to implement and use servers efficiently, BIRT iServer automatically creates additional nodes and clusters when more processing power is needed and removes them when it is not needed. As a result:
- Stateless Installation and Configuration – allows a new iServer node to create itself and find the resources it requires
- Uninterrupted Availability – adds and removes nodes in a cluster configuration to meet changing workloads without stopping and starting the software
- Linear Scalability – scales almost linearly, making use of the full processing power of every machine online.
- Work Unit operating and licensing – flexible licensing model allows organizations to purchase just the capacity required based on usage.
