Optional Meta Data Layer

BIRT iServer is a report server with a variety of services that deploy, manage, schedule, secure, run and distribute BIRT documents and web pages. The services can be phased in and capacity purchased to support just the services needed. It is available as a Platform-as-a-Service (BIRT OnDemand), can be implemented on premises, or installed in a cloud.

Features: Optional Meta Data Layer

BIRT iServer includes an optional meta data layer to hide data structure and complexity from end users and to integrate data from disparate data sources in real time. This enables end users to create their own reports and documents without having to know how and where the data is stored. This metadata layer can be created and used gradually over time, instead of requiring a lengthy data modeling project up front. It supports the same data sources as all of the BIRT Designers.

Incremental and Optional Development
With the BIRT iServer meta data layer, developers can incrementally model and abstract operational data sources as user requirements demand them and create “Information Objects”. This makes it possible for an organization to build out only the areas of the metadata model that are the most important to them.

Information Objects Present Data to Users in Business Terms
Presents users of BIRT Studio with Information Objects with data and queries embedded and presented in business terms, shielding users from the complexity and detail of the physical data structure.

EII-powered Disparate Data Source Integration and Caching
iServer includes Enterprise Information Integration (EII) technology that can integrate multiple data sources in real time. This product integrates the data from the disparate sources in memory and then presents it to a report as though it were from a single data source.

Security with Flexibility
Security layers and flexibility offered by adding granular control over query and data access.
