Re-usable Templates and Themes

BIRT Studio is an ad-hoc reporting tool for business users to create BIRT-based reports using the reusable components created by BIRT developers in an Eclipse BIRT Designer or BIRT Designer Pro from Actuate. It is an AJAX-based business intelligence tool accessed from a web browser with no client software to install. With BIRT Studio, users can create charts and graphs; add, rearrange, reformat, show and hide data; and change report, row, column and cell formatting to create their own BIRT output.

BIRT Studio is implemented as a service of the BIRT iServer. For BIRT ISVs and SaaS vendors wishing to include BIRT Studio in their product, it can be embedded as a component or with the BIRT Deployment Kit.

Re-usable Templates and Themes

BIRT Studio includes pre-built templates with report layout and structure such as rows, columns, tables, labels, and data fields from which business users create ad hoc and interactive reports. It uses pre-built report themes to determine the overall appearance of a report, such as colors or branding. Custom templates and themes can be built by developers using any of the BIRT Designers.

Report Templates
Pre-defined report templates are the foundation of a BIRT Studio report, defining report data and structure.

  • Single Table â€“ creates a listing report with an optional chart; data within the tables can be grouped or displayed in sequential sections.
  • Parallel Table â€“ creates a report with two tables arranged in a parallel layout; data within the tables can be grouped or displayed in sequential sections and charts can be inserted in the tables.
  • Sequential Table â€“ creates a report with two tables arranged sequentially; other features are as described above.
  • Custom Templates â€“ uses custom templates built specifically for an organization using BIRT Designer or BIRT Designer Pro.

Themes
Report themes define the color, look and design of reports created with BIRT Studio.

  • Pre-built themes â€“ lets users select the overall appearance of their reports, including colors, fonts, images, headers, footers and branding elements including logos.
  • Custom themes â€“ uses custom themes built specifically for an organization using any of the four developer-oriented BIRT Designers.
