Dynamic transformation using Information Console
and X2BIRT

X2Birt is a service for accessing data from a variety of sources and using the extracted data in BIRT reports. Possible sources of information for X2BIRT include, but are not limited to, high-volume print streams, archived high-volume electronic documents in Enterprise Content Management (ECM) systems; operational reports from mainframes and more. X2BIRT turns previously dormant information into interactive report content with the use of Actuate BIRT products, including BIRT Designer Pro, BIRT Studio, BIRT Interactive Viewer, and BIRT Scorecard. Information is transformed into a data source for ActuateOne that comes alive with user serviceable dashboards, in-memory, archived data analytics™, scorecards and more, deployed in the form of custom business intelligence applications and information applications that guarantee the best BI user experience available today. X2BIRT is the only available product of its kind.

X2BIRT is ideal for organizations that consistently produce high-volume documents, either printed or presented online, including financial institutions, telecommunication organizations, government agencies, manufacturers and more. The product taps into banking, telephone, credit card, and investment statements, making it easier to translate the information provided into actionable reports.

The dynamic transformation using Information Console and X2BIRT option utilizes the following services/tools:

  • Xenos transformation services for documents (TS4DOCS)
  • Xenos ODA
  • BIRT Generator

There are several program elements that comprise the X2BIRT process when using the above
deployment option:

  • Parser – Parses any document accepted by Xenos TS4DOCS. In this option, a Wizard walks users through the process, setting parameters to parse a print stream
  • Xenos Field Technology (XFT) – XFT lets users define the fields (customer information, transaction information, etc.), which make up the data; for example, defining fields in a statement (a print stream) that contain the data to be extracted and used in a BIRT report visualization (dashboard, scorecard, etc.) Fields may be statically located or based on conditional logic that allows for complex extraction rules.
  • Indexer – Captures fields and comment records as index entries for use in conditional logic for other components or with the Index Writer to output an index file. The indexer can also burst large print streams into individual statements.
  • BIRT Generator – Maps XFT fields to an extensible markup language (XML) schema as required by BIRT Designer

The steps required to use the Xenos ODA deployment option are as follows:

  1. Create the process flow (graphically within Xenos Developer Studio) which will return data
  2. Configure Xenos ODA within BIRT Designer in a BIRT report
  3. Map fields as required
  4. Use the resulting data set(s) in any of the BIRT products for presentation
