Scheduling & Distribution

An intuitive web interface is used by iServer Express end users to easily schedule their own reports without training. iServer Express administrators can access additional scheduling options such as setting schedules based on a combination of events, business rules and calendars.

Security

iServer Express provides hierarchal role-based security with multi-level access permissions. A security model can be implemented stand-alone within iServer Express, or can be integrated with external directory services and single sign-on systems.

Integration

While iServer Express can operate stand-alone, it also offers integration options to adapt the look and feel of reports, provide services to other applications and leverage existing infrastructure. In addition to editable JSPs and URL-based API's, every function within iServer Express is published via a Web Service API.

Data Access

iServer Express can access data from JDBC, XML, flat files, POJOs, and scripted data sources by using its web services API. The Eclipse Data Tools Open Data Access (ODA) framework can be used to add custom data access methods. Optional products exist to add a metadata layer to hide data structure and complexity from end users and to integrate data from disparate data sources in real time.

Administration

iServer Express includes a web-based administrative interface to access utilities for system monitoring, availability, recovery and report management. An administrator can also automate tasks via command line utilities or a complete web services API.

Localization and i18n

Internationalization capabilities are included in iServer Express that accommodate different languages, cultural contexts, data formats and time zones. A single report server can automatically deliver the report server UI and its reports in multiple languages.

Report Interactivity

iServer Express makes it possible for BIRT reports to leverage the ad hoc and end user reporting products for end users to create their own BIRT reports and modify existing reports. With BusinessReport Studio the end user can begin with an existing report template and add data, create new calculations, and apply new styles creating their own report. With Interactive Viewer, an end user can view an existing report and resort the data, change the columns and rows that are displayed, and make other modifications to meet unique requirements.

Quick Deployment

iServer Express can be up and running with existing BIRT and e.Spreadsheet reports in less than an hour. It includes a default configuration and pre-built report repository. Actuate BIRT and e.Spreadsheet Designers can publish reports automatically to iServer Express.
