The BIRT product line consists of four report designers for varied skill levels; a BIRT Report Engine and Java API to integrate reporting into applications; a deployment kit for end users to share and store reports; and a report server to schedule and secure BIRT reports.
BIRT Report Designers are easy to use visual report development tools. They start with features for report and SQL developers working outside the Eclipse environment and progressively add features for programmatic control and extensibility. All BIRT Report Designers include a component-based model for reuse across designers.
iServer Express is a report server that deploys, manages, schedules, secures, runs and distributes BIRT reports. It eliminates the burden of manually fulfilling user requests for reports. It can be implemented stand-alone or as a reporting service for other applications.
The BIRT Report Engine and its APIs offer report generation and viewing services for reports created by the BIRT Report Designers in which they are included. The BIRT Report Engine and APIs can be embedded in an application or used with the Deployment Kit or iServer Express report server.
The Deployment Kit is a lightweight J2EE report repository with a web front-end for users to browse, select, and run BIRT reports on demand. It can be implemented stand-alone for end user reporting or embedded in an application.
