The Getting Started Guide gives step by step instructions for installing iServer Express.
The iServer Express install wizard asks you to provide a license key, but it's not required. If you don't provide a key, iServer Express will install as a 90-day trial. This 90-day trial license includes all options and unlimited users, but will expire 90 to 120 days of when the iServer Express was downloaded from www.birt-exchange.com.
Technically, it's neither. An absolute expiration date is baked into the iServer Express installation. But in practice, it is 90-120 days after DOWNLOAD from BIRT-Exchange, because the most recent build on BIRT Exchange will always have a key that expires sometime between 90 and 120 days in the future.
90 days of use. All options. Unlimited number of named users.
BIRT option, Interactive Viewer (requires BIRT option), e.Spreadsheet option, SmartSheets (requires e.Spreadsheet option), BusinessReports Studio, and Data Integration.
First, contact Actuate sales, buy a key, and receive the license key file in email. Then, use the iServer Express Configuration Console (a web page) to load the new license key file. No uninstall/reinstall is required, and no additional configuration is needed.
Use the Windows Start Menu --> All Programs --> Actuate 9 --> iServer Configuration Console. Or use URLs in this format: http://MYMACHINENAME:8900/acadmin/config
The number of days to expiration is shown on the login screen for iServer Express Management Console: http://MYMACHINENAME:8900/acadmin/login.jsp
Out of box, iServerExpress does not run on Ubuntu. We have found that with a couple of small modifications, you can get iServerExpress to run on Ubuntu. This was done on running a version of Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron). I have created a separate page that details how to run iServerExpress on Ubuntu.
