iServer Express has three major components. First is the back-endreference needed which stores, runs and secures reports. Second is the user interface called iPortal. Third is the Management Console for managing iServer Express. iPortal provides the end-user interface to browse, run, view and organize reports.
Note: iPortal is also available as a stand-alone product. This introduction to iPortal is for the version that comes with iServer Express.
There are three ways to navigate to iPortal. If you are currently on the machine where iPortal is installed then:
Go ahead and save a bookmark so you can easily return to iPortal later.
If you are on the same Windows machine on which you installed iServer Express, then you can use a start menu option.
Remember, this only works if you are browsing from the same machine on which iServer Express is installed.
Alternatively, if you are accessing iServer Express on a machine other than the local one, point your Web browser at this URL:
Substitute the iServer Express machine name for MACHINENAME above.
The iPortal landing page appears. From here, you can log in or view the documentation. You can customize the landing pagereference needed to fit your organization's needs.
Do the following from the landing page to log in.
The login screen appears.
Note the version information at the top of the page. This guide is tailored to
If your version is different, some of the steps or screen shots in this guide may not exactly match what you will see.
If this is your first time using iServer, the system only has one user defined: the Administrator. Administrator is a special iServer Express user that has full access to all server resources. Fill in the fields as follows:
After logging in you see a documents listing. Documents are reports, report output and more. A document is simply a file. iServer Express organizes documents using the familiar folder metaphor. The page that appears after login shows the Administrator's home folder. Each user has a home (or "personal") folder that stores reports and report documents owned by that user and not shared with others. iServer Express also provides shared folders which we'll soon explore. You can return to your home folder at any time by clicking the “My Folder” link in the upper right corner of each iPortal page.
After logging into iServer Express for the first time, you should immediately change the administrator password.
The Options page appears:
The password changes and you will again see the Documents listing for the administrator’s home folder.
The following product manuals at http://www.birt-exchange.com/modules/documentation/ provide more information.
The same documentation is available in your iServer Express install:
